Should You Register a Google Domain?

Google have recently announced that they will be allowing webmasters to register new domains directly with them; using Google domains.
Rather than offering this service along with website creation tools, they are partnering with a bunch of different companies to offer everything under one roof.
At the moment, it is only in beta. So you need a special invitation code to buy or transfer domains using Google domains. But we can expect to see this going live for all within the next year or so.
One of the biggest reasons as to why people may choose to register domains with Google domain as opposed to standard registrars is the fact that there is no extra fee for private registration…
…However, the people that seek private registration are often SEOs trying to hide their tracks from Google, and I would argue that it would be hard to hide when your domain is directly registered with Google themselves!
There has also been an argument that suggests registering a Google domain will make it easier to rank, as Google would favor sites that are held under them…
…Whilst I can’t imagine this working out in practice, it would encourage more people to register a domain with them.
For now, we will just have to wait and see what this looks like when it goes live fully. Though I personally don’t predict there being a massive benefit to choose Google to register a new domain over any of the existing registrars.
