If there wasn’t already enough for us poor webmasters to worry about In the complicated world of online marketing, our efforts to try and rank highly in Google could be destroyed by an evil email…

…Negative SEO has been a growing problem. The more that Google develops their algorithms, the easier it seems for SEOs to attack each others websites with bad links- and cause their sites to tank in the SERPs.

Now, an evil SEO has been sending an email out to countless site owners, threatening to ruin their Google rankings unless they wire $1,500 into their bank accounts.

Here’s the email:

Google has constantly been changing their stance on negative SEO (No surprise there- they constantly change their stance on everything)

They once said there is “almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your rankings or have your site removed from our index,”…

…But more recently they have said “Google works hard to prevent other webmasters from being able to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index.”

We have known for a long time that negative SEO was indeed possible, and it seems some people are starting to abuse it more and more.

Google recommend that you should simply use the disavow tool to remove any links that you didn’t build yourself.

But is it really our responsibility to take time out of days to make up for the mistakes that exist within Google’s algorithm?
