Negative SEO has been causing more and more problems, as Google’s algorithm gets stronger.

For those of you that don’t know, negative SEO is where somebody will deliberately send spammy links to a website in order to get it removed from the search results.

Normally, the reason behind it is to take the competition out so that their website ranks higher instead.

Negative SEO has started becoming more common since Google changed their algorithm to counter SEOs that were ranking highly through ‘manipulative’ techniques.

But in doing so, those same changes to the algorithm would also make it easy for people to mimic those manipulative techniques to take out competing sites in the search results.

But here’s the thing.

Google are well aware of the situation, and it has actually caused them to make more changes to the algorithm to stop the rise in negative SEO…

…and as they move forward and develop their algorithms, they will continue to cater for the fact that negative SEO exists and could cause massive problems if they create an algorithm is too harsh.

Then end result?

A situation where Google is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

They want to make it harder and harder for SEOs to easily rank on the front page of Google. But at the same time, they can’t create an algorithm that is too easily manipulated by people utilising negative SEO.

It means that they will have to come up with something incredibly clever to prevent the countless SEOs that have created a system for ranking on page one.
