7 Ways to Quickly Get More Leads for Your Plumbing Business
Last Updated on: 24th May 2024, 06:23 pm
This is part of a series of posts we’ve put together for various industries to assist with their marketing. Today, we’re looking at plumbing (we’ve previously looked at accounting and locksmiths) .
A good plumber is hard to find. But even if you’re fantastic at your craft, you still need to put yourself out there to get more clients for your plumbing business.
Today, we’ll walk you through 7 methods that worked well for our clients. Here’s how to get plumber leads!
#1 Be in the Right Place at the Right Time to Get Plumbing Leads with PPC Ads
Think about how customers come to you (i.e., your buyer’s journey). Where did they find your services? What problem did they contact you about?
You’re most likely to turn leads into customers when they have a plumbing emergency. When that happens, people turn to Google, using keywords such as:
- 24/7 plumber
- Plumber near me
- Plumber [area]
This is a highly profitable audience segment – they have a problem, and they need help now. Pay-per-click ads and, particularly, Google search ads appear when a lead is explicitly searching for a plumber.
For example, as a Google Ads specialist, we were able to help this client get 40 conversions in a highly-targeted area (their city) at only £14.27 per conversion.
If you consider your average deal value, investing in Google Ads is more than worth it!
Google Ads Budget
How much do you need to spend to get plumber leads? The good news is that Google Ads doesn’t have high thresholds when it comes to minimum campaign costs.
You retain total control over your ads, so there’s no chance of going over budget, especially if your business is still growing.
However, if you’re not sure what your Google Ads budget should be or what to expect, get in touch with a Google Ads expert.
#2 Use a Customer Relationship Management Tool to Stay Top of Mind
Plumbing customers don’t need your services every month, but they do need them from time to time. While you can use business cards, it’s much better to build your base of customers with a tool like Hubspot (free).
You can enter details about customers and jobs done. Then, send them updates periodically to stay top of mind.
You can even create a referral program!
Without a CRM or a mailing list, you win a client, but you don’t retain their contact information. As you get more and more customers, it’ll be hard to keep track and maximise repeat business.
P.S. If you choose to use Google Ads advertising, you can also import your offline conversions (e.g., phone calls and shop visits) to improve your budget allocation.
#3 Get High-Value Plumbing Leads with Retargeting
Now that you’ve reached leads ready to convert right away, let’s talk about people who need a plumber for their project. Perhaps they’re building a house or renovating one. They’re not in a rush; they can shop around.
How do you ensure they choose you?
Whenever we work with plumbers who ask me how to get plumber leads and higher deals as part of their digital marketing strategy, we tell them:
With Google Ads retargeting, you can reach leads who visited your website but didn’t convert.
Let’s say Frank needs a plumber for his home renovation. He’s visited your website and a few others.
But you’re the only one who sent him a retargeting ad a few days later. Your ad reminded him of your quality and experience, making him choose you (despite the competition).
#4 How to Get Plumber Leads with Local SEO
Ads drive leads on demand, but it’s worth investing in local SEO to generate leads from Google for free. This takes more time than Google Ads (and it’s often more expensive), but there are a few free things you can do right away:
Set up Your Google My Business Profile
Get listed on Google so that whenever searchers look for a keyword with your service and industry, your business shows up on the map. Google My Business is 100% free, and you can also use it to collect reviews.
The more positive reviews you get, the higher Google places you in search results.
List Your Business in Local Directories
Make sure you claim your listings on local directories and directories like Yelp or Foursquare. This makes you more credible in Google’s eyes, and it may affect your SEO ranking.
Target People in Your Area with Content
Make sure your website is specific to the area(s) you serve. If you only work in Bristol, mention your city generously on your website.
Mention specific neighbourhoods.
When a lead arrives on your website, references to the area confirm they’re in the right place.
#5 Get More Plumbing Leads with Local Services Ads
Google local services ads are similar to Google Ads. Like the standard Google AdWords, you set a budget and decide how much you’re willing to pay per click.
However, you need to verify your business as a legitimate provider to get the guaranteed badge:
- Background check
- License check
- Insurance check
Leads can also book appointments directly from the search results pages.
#6 Motivate Your Plumbing Customers to Leave Reviews
In addition to the methods I use to help PPC consulting clients, the key to turning leads into customers is social proof.
Since 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations, invite your customers to rate you on online directories or your Google My Business profile:
- Share testimonials on your website
- If you use Google Ads, share reviews on your landing page
- Share reviews on your social media
#7 Partner with Other Service Providers in Your Community
Connect with other service providers in your community, such as architecture firms, electricians, construction firms, drywall installers, etc.
If you offer top-quality work, they’ll be happy to recommend you.
Additionally, local businesses like cafes often have a spot for service providers’ business cards or flyers.
