Back in 2002 when Google AdWords was brand new, it revolutionised the advertising industry with the most effective form of direct response advertising ever seen.

It made it possible to tap into people who had a specific need right NOW.. that were willing to buy.

Right now Facebook is doing exactly the same… this time using interruption marketing.

What Is Interruption Marketing & How Can It Work For My Business?

Interruption marketing means that people are NOT actively looking to buy. Therefore we need to interrupt them from what they are doing (browsing the newsfeed) with something that grabs their attention.

Typically – we might talk about how we can solve a big problem they have, or help them to hit a big goal.

The key is that we need to grab their attention fast.

Once we’ve got their attention, we then need to keep it, and win their trust. The best way to do this is by building a connection, demonstrating that you understand their problem, and that you are clearly able to help. This connection can be built in a number of ways… what’s working best right now is video, whether through webinar or face to camera video.

However, what many people forget.. is that these people are typically NOT seeking an immediate solution. We interrupted them while they were doing something else remember? Therefore the next step is to nurture them until they clearly know who we are, how we can solve their problem, and then ask them to book in a call to discuss how we can help.

Facebook has made this easier than ever through the use of retargeting. This means we can follow people around with our ads, showing them different parts of our solution and how we can help. We can combine this with other platforms retargeting solutions such as Twitter, Google etc to become omnipresent.. continually top of mind for the prospect. The final step is to then follow these people up continually with emails. While this sounds like a lengthy process, this typically takes around 7 to 14 days and for a high value service creates highly qualified inbound leads.
